In about a week or so we will take it off and put up another new track.
The track we put up is called "The Way You Are". If you have ever seen Firescape, you probably heard this song. It has been a staple in our set list for about a year. So I hope you like it. Please let us know what you think. I love reading the feedback from you guys, I think it's awesome.
Now, on to some other cool stuff. I met a Nobel Prize Winner the other day. I think it's really awesome meeting people who attain fame through the means of knowledge. It was a spiritually satisfying experience to say the least.
Also, and in a completely unrelated topic, I have been party to more Beer Bong's in the past month than I have in my entire young adulthood. I think I have a problem. If you see me with a funnel and plastic tubing, please take me to a fancy bar or something where that sort of thing is looked down upon.

The TOP TEN LIST;

Top Ten Things I Overanalyze!!!!

10. Women
9. What does Mike Doughty mean when he talks about true dreams in Wichita
8. God
7. The ingredients of Low Fat foods.
6. How bad I am at Bowling
5. I need to stop biting my nails
4. What the tall black dude in Prodigy actually does in the band
3. The Past
2. I have lost and found myself at least 3 times this month. Emotional ups and downs. The Anaheim Angels are mainly to blame. The mixing of the album is going great. I am very excited for you all to hear it. Apparently the whole Myspace thing is really taking off. Keep up the good times there. I try to stay away from myspace. I think I already have too many skeletons in my closet that I don't need a medium to show them to the world. I read something that said that myspace will ruin your relationships. I think at this point, I don't need any help in that department, so don't feel bad if I stick to my blogging.
I just figured out that I can put pictures up here. So I am going to try to start putting pictures up at least once a week. This weeks is from last weekend. I was going to try and describe what I was doing, but I think a lack of explanation may be better suited.
Oh, here's something. I just returned from Vegas a couple hours ago. I got extremely drunk with about 12 guys I have known for far too long, lost a lot of money and fell in love with a stripper...... Par for the course.

Okey Dokey. Well, now on to the top ten list.

Top ten lines that I wish I had written (with links if possible) :

10 - Bullet proof Glass at the KFC,
Keep the man safe in his paper hat,
Keep the wrong hands off the biscuit fortune - Mike Doughty

9- Sometimes a Scream is better than a thesis - Ralph Waldo Emerson

8- If my shame spills our worth across this floor- Coheed and Cambria

7- I’ve seen the Rains of the real world Come forward on the plain,
I’ve seen the kansas of your sweet little myth: You’ve never seen it, no,
I’m half sick on the drinks you mixed- Soul Coughing

6 -And I have learned that even landlocked lovers yearn for the sea like navy men - Death Cab for Cutie

5 -Get out as early as you can,
And don't have any kids yourself. - Phillip Larkin
http://plagiarist.com/poetry/1053/

4- - Their sons grow suicidally beautiful - James Wright
http://plagiarist.com/poetry/1340/

3- Cupid, please hear my cry, and let your arrow fly - Sam Cooke

2- And she is dying piece-meal of a sort of emotional anemia. - Ezra Pound
http://www.poetry-archive.com/p/the_garden.html

1 - It is as if my heart put on a face and walked into the world - Sylvia Plath
http://www.americanpoems.com/poets/sylviaplath/1453

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://firescape.blogspot.com/2005/10/for-record-i-am-extremely-boring.html' title='For the record.... I am really excited. It will be an Acoustic set which is awesome. We had a couple of acoustic sets on the last tour so it should be pretty nice to come back to it. Also, we are going to play a couple of new songs which I am pretty excited about. So yeah, that's the word here. Summer is almost officially over. I didn't get a tan. Just like last year, and the year before, and the year before. So in keeping with the subject of my inability to tan, I am going to list my top ten things I suck at... I'm sure my family and friends can make a top 1000, but this is my blog and my self esteem is poor as it is.
So here goes

Top Ten Things I suck at:

10- Bowling
9- Eating at the Dinner Table (I have horrible manners)
8- Calling my mother
7- Pretending to be interested
6- Not biting my nails
5- Playing the Drums
4- Tanning
3- crossing my eyes
2- Dating
1- Not spilling beer on myself

WORD UP DOGS!!!!!

Time after Time

So it has been a little while since I have posted here. I keep meaning to do it but either lazyness or ignorance keep me from accomplishing this simple task.
I have been in the studio all week producing/writing/throwing penny's and other assorted change at the band Like Lions. This band is really awesome. It is so cool watching a band come from one place, transform themselves through a process and come out the other end a better band. I definitely think you should check out the Like Lions stuff ASAP.
Other than that. Jake and I are planning to go back into the studio next week to do a couple more tracks to lock down the album. That will put the recorded material at a grand total of 30 songs. I am hoping to put out a 14 song album but we will see. Sometimes you can't have your cake and eat it too. I am hoping to finish and mix every single track and release the unused ones online for free. I figure that there is no point to not have them floating around cyberspace.

So now onto the top ten list-

Top ten songs in my CD player ( I know this is easy but anyways)

10- Jim Croce- You Don't Mess Around With Jim
9- Toad the Wet Sprocket- Fall Down
8- Death Cab for Cutie- Marching Bands of Manhattan
7- Like Lions - Cheap Seats
6- Mae- This is the Countdown
5- Mike Doughty- Grey Ghost
4- The Fray- Over My Head
3- Circa Survive- In Fear and Faith
2- Gin Blossoms- Found Out About You
1- Mike Doughty- Sunken Eyed Girl

Tales of wasted delight

Hello everyone,
So we are sitting in a living room outside of Chicago. Tour is going great. The shows have been amazing. We are playing/ have played with some amazing bands on this run. A big thanks to A Static Lullaby, Waking Ashland, Flying Just Below Radar, Dormlife, National Fire Theory, and The Junior Revolution. I urge you all to check out all of those bands, they are awesome.
We are on the second day of 14 shows in a row. Wish us luck. Should be a good run. Can't wait to get to the east coast. Even though during the summer it seems like the west coast is a bit more desirable, you can never beat the intensity of the east coast music scene.
As a lot of you may already know, my good friend Andrew McMahon was diagnosed with Leukemia a little bit ago. I have held off from posting anything about it out of respect to his own statements.
We in Firescape wish Andrew all the best in dealing with his health and hope for a speedy recovery. Andrew is amazing individual and we wish him the best.

Top Ten list:
Top Ten CD's to drive across the country to:

In No particular order this time:

Mike Doughty- Haughty Melodic
Pete Yorn- musicforthemorningafter
The Wallflowers- Bringing down the horse
Pearl Jam- VS.
The Weakerthans- Reconstruction Site
Weezer- the blue album
Eels- Blinking Lights and Other Revelations
Metallica- Master of Puppets
The Streets- A grand don't come free
Sugarcult- Palm Trees and Powerlines

Guns

So it's been a tough week. We are gearing up for a tour. An extremely busy tour as it were. It looks like we will be playing almost 26 shows in 31 days and circling the country while doing so. There's a lot going on right now. I don't want to get too specific, cause a lot of it really isn't anyones business. But I do want to talk a little bit about guns.
I hate guns. I hate guns more than I hate anything else on this planet. If you are gun-owner I do not hate you. But I do think you are absolutely out of your mind and I will never want to step foot in your home. It's a good thing we have the right to bare arms in this country cause we are always in danger of the king of england coming over here and trying to take over our homes. The entire argument behind our right to have firearms is absurd. First off, give me one reason why you need a gun to protect yourself, your family, or your home and the citizens of the other 35 wealthiest nations in the world don't.
By the way... on a side note, I am probably offending a lot of you with my stance on this.... you know what... good. Because until you have first hand expeirence of how guns do nothing to protect and in fact increase the death rates in our country across the board, I can live with the fact that I am offending you.
If any of you think I'm lying or making any of this up, I urge you to take a look for yourself at the following websites.

http://www.millionmommarch.org/
http://www.bradycampaign.org/facts/

Like I said... if you own a gun or if you disagree with me that is fine. This is America, and it is your right to disagree with me. But I urge you... if you own a gun... be responsible with it.

Nice New Look

Well, I am in Seacacus, NJ. It is currently 2 am and I am waiting for the night time to put me into a trance. Today was a lazy day. Oh how I love the lazy day. It is really enjoyable taking an entire day to learn so much but accomplish nothing. I think you need to do that from time to time. I think it's good for your head. We all put so much pressure on ourselves that it's nice to take a day every now and then mosey around with free will to whatever you please. There is nobility in over-acheivment, but also in under-acheivment as well.

the top ten list.

Top ten entertaining but meaningless TV shows

10- Days of our Lives
9- Jerry Springer
8- Elimidate
7- Regis and Kelly
6- ESPN World tour of Poker
5- Oprah
4- Access Hollywood
3- Blind Date
2- The OC
1- Judge Judy

Fear and Loathing in Orange County

Hey everybody,
So it is now official. All members of Firescape live in Orange County. or at least we all reside here. You will usually find us on tour, in a van, or passed out in the back alley of a pub. So that is good news. We have been rehearsing a lot lately, trying to perfect the new songs as much as possible. I am taking vocal lessons. I have learned a lot from doing that. If you ever want a good laugh ask me to do some of the exercises in front of you.. If I can do them and keep a straight face through the whole things someone owes me a beer or five.
Today is Easter. I will be spending some time with my family as well as with Jake and Andy (my other family). SO yes, everything is exceptional right now. We have a show on Wed, march 30th at the Troubadour in West Hollywood. If you are around I suggest you come on out and party F-Scape style.

So now for the top ten list.

Top Ten Slang Words that never really caught on or slowly faded out

10- Word up
9- Radical
8- Dudical
7- Bodacious
6- Cowabunga
5- Ay Carumba (bart simpson will always win in the end)
4- Psych (pronounced "sike")
3- Wail ( as in.. hey you guys wail)
2- Tubular
1- Most Heinous

- Important note- if you want to witness slang in a large dose watch Bill and Ted's Excellent adventure and any of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles installments.

This Very Moment

My Top Ten Songs as of this very moment

10- Wilma's Rainbow- Helmet
9- Beautiful Girls- Van Halen
8- Villain- Bleed the Dream
7- One Man Army- Our Lady Peace
6- Forget about Tomorrow- Feeder
5- Live Again- Better Than Ezra
4- Moondance- Van Morrison
3- Transatlanticism - Death Cab For Cutie
2- Grey Street- Dave Matthews Band
1- Rain Song- Sunny Day Real Estate

R & B

So I am going to admit it.
I love R & B. There really shouldn't be anything wrong with that. After all, R & B music dates back almost as far as rock and roll. Even as far as blues you could argue. But I'm in a rock band. Which is weird that I love R & B music. Or maybe everyone loves it but feels stupid to admit because a lot of us have no rhythm. Well I'm taking a stand... here and now... I LOVE R&B Music! There now we can all start a movement.
Now I know what you all are thinking, "josh bought the usher CD and all of the sudden he thinks he's in Night at the Roxbury"... close but not true. I love the deep tracks man... I'm even starting to listen to Peabo Bryson, Teddy P.. can anyone say Luther Vandross... oh man... we are talking heavy soul my friends... So instead of a top ten list, I am going to give 5 possible stories of how this might have happened. Which one is true... that is for me to know and you to find out.

5- I was playing flip cup at a local frat house and slipped on some spilled beer, hitting my forehead on the table on the way down. After I retained consciousness, I found myself in a freshman all girls dorm being massaged back to health.

4- While playing a show a young kid got so excited that he threw his shoe on stage hitting me in the head, and I still didn't miss a note and didn't know I was hurt until I got off stage because Rock is the best antibiotic.

3- While on the bus, a local bloke cruised on trying to acost all of those in the bus and like a knight in shining armor I defended the honor of the entire group by taking one in forehead and then showing his ass to the door.

2- Me and 10 ninjas in a dark Chicago alley.

1- While at a bar, a young woman was being harassed by a couple of men under the influence. I stepped in and handled the situation but while handling it, one of the guys pulled a knife... while outside in a "beat it" video style face-off piece of the bar sign fell from the roof hitting me in the head, leaving me slightly dazed. While in my state the guys bolted and I was left wounded with 14 super models in a private vip bar. The bartender was so excited that I chased the hooligans away; he bought us champagne for the rest of the night. I woke up the next morning with 13 phone numbers and girlfriend.

you make the call.- Josh

new year

So it is now a new year. Wow.... so much has changed. or has it... maybe it hasn't and it just feels like it has because all of the sudden I put a 5 at the end of the date instead of a 4. I think i look roughly the same as I did last year...maybe I am older.. I don't feel a year older.. I am definitely not a year wiser. Anyways... This is hardly the point of my blog for today. Today's blog is about movies that move me. I think that just as certain songs become the soundtrack to an event in your life, some movies make you think a lot about something.
I am writing this because I just watched garden state. Everyone told me how awesome of a movie it was so I stole it from roomate and gave her a go. I was impressed. The soundtrack is great, like I heard it was. It did make me think about my life, like I am sure it did for everyone else who has seen it. It made me think about whether or not I am wasting time with certain people. Maybe I am longing for a movie-like romance. Does that even happen anymore? I remember that I was always so excited about love when I was a teenager. Love always felt like a movie. Does love still feel that way, or maybe I just haven't been in love in a while, or ever for that matter. Have I grown out of romance. that's a weird thought. can you grow out of it? hmmm.. well either way... maybe my new years resolution is to have a little more romance in my life... I'm sure that will go as well as the no coffee one I did a couple years back.. let's just say Starbucks is alive and well in my houshold.
So the Top Ten list:

Top Ten Charatcers in movies

10- Bruce Wayne (Michael Keeton) Batman
9- Herman Blume (Bill Murray) Rushmore
8- Frank T.J. Mackey (Tom Cruise) Magnolia
7- Allen (Phillip Seymour Hoffman) Happiness
6- the Dude (jeff bridges) - The Big Lebowski
5- Royal Tennenbaum (gene hackman) the Royal Tennenbaums
4- Fenster(benicio del torro) - The Usual Suspects
3-Tony Montana (Al Pacino) Scarface
2- Edward Scissorhands (johnny depp) Edward Scissorhands
1- Walter Sobchak (John Goodman)- the nig lebowski

Short one

So this is gonna be a pretty short blog. As for me, I'm an early riser. My dad is laughing right now after reading that I am sure. But I am in comparison to most guys in bands I guess. I love the morning. It seems to me like it is the freshest part of the day. My favorite thing about the morning is that when you do a lot of stuff before noon, you feel like you could own the world. I love that feeling. It is one of the purest feelings of accomplishment. So to make this Blog a little more "tour" specific, yesterday was our first day off on the tour with Audio Karate and Bleed the dream. This tour has been really fun. We have been going out and having a great time almost every night. If you have yet to hear either of those bands you should go and listen to them online right now. They are really awesome. Not to get to deep right now, but one thing that I really cherish in life are the relationships I have made with other touring musicians while on the road. I think there is certain connection that guys in bands have after they have been touring for a certain amount of time. It's almost like a support group. Everyone knows how much everyone else misses their own bed. Everyone has a good Texas Police story. Someone usually has a good story about crossing the border from Canada. It's just awesome. I think we are a rare breed. So to all the rockers out there, and to those aspiring to be.... my top ten list this week is going to be great road songs.
Talk to you all very soon... email me at firescape@randomplaymusic.com

10- "Cool for one night" - Hot Rod Circuit
9- "The Fold Out"- The Jealous Sound
8- "For Those About to Rock" - AC/DC
7- "I wrote this down" - Limbeck
6- "Jude Law and a Semester Abroad" - Brand New
5- "Is Chicago, is not Chicago"- Soul Coughing
4- "Bright Lights" Matchbox 20
3- "Warning Sign" Coldplay
2- "Closer to you" Wallflowers.
1- "Jamestown" The Movielife

Just a quick one

So I am only doing a quick blog today cause things are a little crazy getting readyfor the tour. This Blog will be focused on the internet. I have to say that the people who have (thus far) posted and communicated on the firescape site and the firescape blog are awesome. I always enjoy it when people have positive responses to comments on the internet. And actually, not only positive responses are are needed in a community like this. I think that comments that are consturctive are great too. I think it all comes down to tone and delivery. I hate it when I go on websites and read comments on message boards that say "this band sucks" or "man that song is the worst, what were they thinking". Personally I wouldn't go on to a website and talk trash. I think it is faceless and cowardice. But I don't think it is wrong to offer reasoning behind a disagreement of opinion. If someone responded to the last blog saying,"I think that some of the books Josh chose aren't that good. I read X&Y and I thought they were slow. Here are some books I like." That would be awesome. I just think that message boards and posts should serve more for conversation than for faceless response. But hey, what can you do.
top ten list of the week

Top 10 websites I like:

10- Harmonycentral.com
9- Guitargeek.com
8- Purevolume.com
7- BBC.com
6- Yahoo.com
5- Ebay.com
4- Amazon.com
3- ebaumsworld.com
2- Absolutepunk.net
1- Homestarrunner.com

enjoy all-
PS= I just put up a mysapce account for Firescape. I am slowly getting used to my new role as a front man. I think it's really interesting when you switch roles in any part of your life. I think you gain a new perspective on what it is that you do and those you know in the same position. So yeah.
I am writing from a studio in Northern Orange County right now. I pretty much just catching up on email and wasting time on the net while they figure out why one of the mic's isn't quite working. I wish I could be more help but at this point there were too many cooks in the kitchen as they say. I will instead talk about the coming election. I don't want to publish my opinion on this subject because, ultimately, it doesn't matter for it is my opinion and not yours. But I do have no qualms about stating that I believe we are definitely scrapping the bottom of the barrel with these two guys. I thought that being the President of the United States was supposed to be an honor that only the ultra-intelligent and extremely charismatic of people could strive to being. But with the two guys showing up for this race, I wonder where it all went wrong. Did we all stop caring somewhere along the way and for that reason no one wants to be president anymore? Did we all become so apathetic that the Presidency is now just a job that you fall into instead of strive to be? I wish I knew the answer. Frankly, I think it's the party's fault. I have my suspicions that they are ones putting these puppets up on the national platform and it is they who want to pull the strings to make them dance. I guess if you want to manipulate a leader, the dumber the better. If that is the case then the party's are doing an excellent job. These guys are plastic at best. I wonder if they have any idea what they are talking about half the time. They remind me of the kid who read the first part of each chapter of a book and then gave a book report on it. Sure they now a taste of what's going on but they never know the whole story. Many would say that it is impossible for them to know everything about what the presidency entails, but give me a break. They should at least have a grasp on it all.
Well that is my rant for the day. Maybe we should all wake up the two dominant parties and vote for the other guys. Vote for Independent or Green Party candidates. Show them that we mean business. I wish that would work. We will see.
Oh yeah, top ten list of the week.

Best Books (in my opinion of course)

10. The Giving Tree
9. Most who will read this will be coming from the Firescape website, which is cool, however I really want to make this different than a "tour Diary". I think that tour diaries are almost excuses to update your website with news. I'm not knocking tour diaries. I love them. But, I think it would be cool to get a little deeper into what's going on in general, not just posts but complete thoughts on an actual idea. I have some cool ideas for this Blog stuff. I am going to do top 10 lists every week. Just something to be entertaining, mainly for myself. Also, I would expect my grammar and spelling to suffer a little from all of this so deal with it.
So to start out my first Blog entry I would like to talk about one of my favorite bands. A band called "Eels". When I was in High School my friend and now roommate, Matt, and I heard a song called "Novocaine for the Soul" on the radio and though him and I were not great friends at the time, we both instantly connected with each other over our love for this song. I know wonder if Matt and I would have become good friends if we hadn't both dug that song so much. If you haven't heard the song, you must. I would venture to say that it is my favorite opening line for a song. "Life is hard. And so am I". The Eels first major release was named "Beautiful Freak" and it was just that. It was completely different than anything else that was out at the time but was so beautifully written. It has been said that this album, and subsequent albums as well, are closely related to Mark Everett, or E as he is named on Eels records, and his struggle to get through great personal tragedy that occurred almost immediately before the recording of the album. Beautiful Freak puts my mind in a different place every time I hear it. The song "Not Ready Yet" I believe is the standout track on the album. To me, the song is about wanting to get out and live a normal life but it is extremely hard to shake certain things that have happened to you. This song is allegedly about Mark Everett's sister committing suicide. So the point is, every album by Eels is a piece of art that I cherish. So buy them all.
So for the first top 10 list of my blog space I am going to list my top 10 eels songs. Please feel free to respond to the list or the blog itself by emailing me at Firescape@randomplaymusic.com

Top 10 Eels songs:

10.
